The Oiling Process
#
1. Clean First
Use a deck cleaner and stiff brush. Remove all dirt, mould, and old flaking oil.#
2. Let It Dry
Wait 2-3 sunny days for timber to fully dry.#
3. Sand (If Needed)
Light sand removes grey weathering and opens timber pores.#
4. Apply Oil
Use quality decking oil (Intergrain, Feast Watson, Cutek). For merbau decking, use an oil designed for hardwoods. General timber decking care varies by species. Apply with brush, roller, or sprayer.#
5. Second Coat
After 24 hours, apply second coat to end grain and high-wear areas.Composite Deck Maintenance
Much simpler:
- Monthly hose down
- Occasional scrub with soapy water
- Remove stains promptly
- Clear debris from gaps
- No oiling or staining ever
